I'm a baseball aficionado. This sport is a passion of mine to study and understand it's significance to the American lifestyle. This is one of two sports (football being the other) that can unite the United States from the depths of tragedy and helps heals its suffering. The terrorists attacks of September 11th and the attack on Pearl Harbor best exemplify why people look to those sports to help find victory and restore their way of life.
Those not familiar with the sport, Major League Baseball has two leagues: the American League and the National League. I chose National as the screen name for this site because the National League is what started professional baseball, it has been around a generation longer than the American League, a league in which I, and many baseball fans and historians, believe is not the "pure league" because of a different rule they has set up and they way their teams conduct their style of play (which I'm not against, by the way. It's just different styles).
The National League started pro baseball and has had several different leagues trying to dismantle it, to no avail. The American League is the only rival to the National League that still (and will forever) exist. The rivalry was MUCH more fierce way back when than it is today.
Besides, I think "National" sound more patriotic than "American". I also thought it would be catchy is I used the word national on the title of my topics. It sounds like something one would hear on CNN or MSNBC such as, "The National Poll shows that…."
The word National appears on the titles of pro hockey (National Hockey League), football (National Football League), and basketball (National Basketball Association). Any sports league that has the word American on its title, will go — or has gone – out of business.

I also enjoy the National Football League –

Major League Baseball is my number 1 sport. The National Football League is second. Another thing with football is that its greatest rival was the American Football League. What happened? Well, there's a saying that goes, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." That's what the AFL did.
With the word National in its titile, it sounds more patriotic or unified than American. American is patriotic, don't get me wrong. It's just that the word American in its title singles out everything else abroad the U.S. The word National can mean American. But it sounds better and more abstract.
Anyway, that's basically it.
