This is 40 has now average score 62% on metacritic. It is even 1% better than first Transformers, which was until now best rated Megans movie on metacritic. Lets hope it shall be only better.

It doesn’t say much, universal was expecting it to take in the low teens this weekend, I also read that the movie is not expected to open big but to have consistent numbers over time.
It also says the budget was $50mil I guess that includes promo?

That’s not “slightly below what was expected”. That’s a flop. If it really made only 3.7 mln on friday, it will probably make about 11-13 mln during the entire opening weekend. Next week Les Miserables, Django Unchained and Parental Guidance all come out in about 3K theaters each, so I seriously doubt that This Is 40 will have “consistent numbers over time”, I guess it will make about 50 millions or less at the end, and it would be Apatow’s worst result as a among the movies he directed. Keep in mind that a movie has to make about TWICE its budget to be profitable, because the studios only get 50-60% of ticket sales, so it wouldn’t be enough.

It’s not really a flop if you’re basing your estimates on one day.

You also have no idea how it’s going to fare over time. People whose job it is to analyze this stuff know way more about it than you do. Plus DVD sales contribute to profits as well.

Still, you have to admit it’s not doing too good at the box office. But I expected such, it’s a kind-of sequel to Knocked-Up and the whole raunchy romp-coms have ran their course. Then it’s Christmas time, a time where families are going out to see movies, “This is 40″‘s humor and sex scene introduction isn’t exactly “family material”

I just saw the movie. It’s really good and really funny. It’s 2 hours and 15 minutes, Megan was in it for about 20 minutes. Her scenes were pretty short, but they’re spread throughout the whole movie, so that’s good. If you’re going to see Megan… STAY HOME. Chances are you’ve already seen all her parts on YouTube. The only scene I haven’t seen on Youtube was the the club/car scene and the sex scene(doesn’t count really, you couldn’t see her face and it wasn’t much of a sex scene) it was a security video, that Pete and Deb was going over and she happen to have been sleeping with a customer. It was more SNL that it was an actual sex scene.

Still good good movie. I was hoping it would bring in at least 35+ million, to hear it’s just 13 million is very disappointing. But there wasn’t that many people in the movie theater in my town, the majority of the people there were seeing the Hobbit, so Jack Reacher probably isn’t performing that well either.

I’ll just blame the bad numbers on bad timing for the release and the R-rating for the subject. If it’s about being 40, it sort of causes the young 18-30 demographic to back off and draws in the 40+ crowd. Then the R rating keeps the 40+ crowd from bringing in anymore family (the younger ones anyway), which is what caused the bad turn out for this one. These under-performing flicks are killing Megan’s resume. But if Jessica Biel is still getting roles, I guess Megan can do some good. She’s very good in this one and pretty funny. Unlike Biel, she can’t act worth a hoot!

too early to call and movies at this time of year have high multipliers so we have to watch it over the next few weeks. on Boxofficemojo they said Universal expected low teens this weekend

the worse is that if the movie flops, people will blame Megan once again saying she’s “box office poison”. And that’s just not fair.

The movie was really good, I just doubt the movie subject can attract the demographic they’re looking for. The majority of movie goers are in that 18-50 demo. You need them to sell a big movie.
Most of the people watching the movie while I was there was mostly people in there 50s. So that’s already a bad sign. There were a couple of young boys, probably hoping to see Megan’s boobs, but they could’ve check that out on youtube. Overall, I wasn’t disappointed because the movie sort of made up for my not seeing Megan scenes that I haven’t already seen.

I’m sure that a few haters will say that she is a box office poison(if the movie doesn’t do well) but i am gonna say once again that she has been receiving good reviews for her acting in her last 2 movies and that’s is (in my opinion) more important than the box office results.Studios in Hollywood are aware of what Megan is bringing when it comes to film projects and that is media buzz a well as male audience worldwide(Passion Play & Friends With Kids were released internationally in theaters based on her popularity).Further proof of Megan’s popularity is the fact that she was given the task to promote the Academy Awards and announce the Golden Globe nomination( a gig which is usually given to more established actresses like Anna Kendrick,Jennifer Lawrence….) as well as being part of Paramount’s 100 anniversary.

I think it won’t look good if the movie flops and Megan get bad critics. As longs as she gets good critics and reviews, she will be fine, even if the movie flops.

If 12mil is good for them, then I guess it’s a good opening. I just don’t like the fact they compared it with Miss Congeniality and The Family Man. Movie tickets when those movies came out were like 8 bucks. I paid 12 dollars to see ‘This is 40′ The openings aren’t comparable.

Exactly as I wrote in my post, it made 12 mil in the weekend (I wrote 11-13) and it was a huge flop on Christmas (sixth spot, only 4.3 mil). Notice that even Parental Guidance (very bad reviews) did better.

Passion Play went straight to video, Friends with Kids was a boxoffice flop, and Jennifer Lawrence is an Oscar contestant, she’ll never wake up at 4 a.m. to announce the Golden Globes nominees, it’s not something that A-listers like (need) doing. No wonder the other presenter was jessica alba, whose career is basically in the same condition as megan’s.

-parental guidance is a family movie they are big at this time and it was released on Christmas day. 4.3 isn’t bad and 6th isn’t bad either considering the movies out now.
-Give This is 40 time like people in the know are saying Christmas time is unlike other times of the year. Its an R rated comedy it will be a slow grind
-Passion Play did get a very limited theater run(2 theaters). It was a giant fail http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/passion_play/ and a run in a few other countries
-FWK didn’t do good but I don’t think it was a flop. The budget was ‘well under $10mil’ according to Jen and a screener(good quality) leaked 3months before release plus it Did ok on Dvd and digital download
-I’m sure Jennifer wouldn’t mind getting up at 4am, I had a quick look at previous years and there are some big names that did it

Jennifer Lawrence announced the Academy Awards nominations in 2011 or 2012, but I’m not sure what time did she woke up and Anna Kendrick along side Zoe Saldana announced 2013 Spirit Awards nominations,in my opinion much less prestigious than GG (By the way,I think Kendrick is 1000% better actress than Lawrence)
I think anyone here knows that I’m a die hard Megan’s fan(my friends,family and student at the college I attend say I’m a bit obsessed with her,just a bit) and I don’t post facts about her or anyone else unless 100% sure

Where was Passion Play released, on Mars? It made 3700 dollars, according to boxofficemojo. Basically it was watched only by the cast and the crew, and maybe not even all of them. Friends with Kids made 12 mln instead, I seriously doubt that it was profitable, but maybe they used second-hand cameras and all the cast and crew might have worked for free.

Jennifer Lawrence announced the nominees for the Oscars (not the GG), the year after being nominated by the same Academy, two hours later in the morning, and let’s not forget that she’s only 22. Try asking her agent if she’d like to announce the GG’s nominees at 4 am together with two actresses who are having problems finding roles, and you’ll see the (hopefully polite) answer.

1 Passion Play was released in theaters in Europe (U.K.,Russia,Greece…).The profits you mention were the grosses from 2 showings in 2 theaters in America,the movie was a straight-to-DVD release(A major letdown for Megan’s career,I agree).FWK was nothing major,just a project to put the director on Hollywood’s radar,she probably just did it for the money(I personally liked the film,but that’s just me.)
2 Now as far as Jennifer Lawrence goes,I don’t get why is it okay for her to announce the Oscar nominees but Megan has to be a has been to announce the nominees got GG but let’s leave that to everyone’s personal opinion.As far the age difference between these 2, let’s face it:this is Hollywood.actors/actresses in Megan’s age are still playing high-school students.But let’s talk about box office here.Sure,Megan only has one true box-office success,Transformers and even I can tell u that she is probably never going to star in something bigger.Jennifer Lawrence’s first 2 major movies were well received from the critics and even though successful,none of them reach Transformers success.I know that there are a lot of arguments for what I just wrote(mostly about the quality of the films) but again I’m just expressing my OWN opinion.
3 And for the end I left what I believe is going to give me the title of a certified Lawrence hater(I’m not by the way,I really liked Hunger Games):
House At The End of The Street vs Jennifer’s body.Almost identical budget and box-office results,but believe it or not, JB got much better reviews than HATETS (Thsese 2 films were the first major releases for both actresses after their breakthrough.
So, is Megan a better actress? “probably” no.Is she a bigger box-office draw? No.Is Lawrence ever gonna be as popular as Megan? Doubtful.There is no question which one is the better actress,we all know the answer to that.But what it can not be denied is that Megan has a certain x-factor that makes her popular and likable.She is in a list of internationally popular sex-symbols(Farrah Fawcett,Kim Basinger even Monroe)who are/were spending their entire career trying to prove theme selfs . Megan may prove herself one day,who knows.
The point of this irritatingly long comment is to hopefully convince the haters that there is no need to put Megan down in every chance given.(This is not by any means a personal attack to the person i replied to)
